AMHERST, Mass. – The Amherst College Department of Music will present The One of Us, a senior composition thesis by Samuel Friend ’10 on Sunday, Feb. 28, at 8 p.m. in Buckley Recital Hall in the Arms Music Center at Amherst College. The concert is free and open to the public.

The One of Us is a piece in three movements that thematically and lyrically addresses fundamental questions of human existence and relationships and, as Friend writes, “focuses on duality, nonduality, love, desire and paradox.” The composition—which was influenced by blues, jazz, latin jazz, rock and classical traditions—will be performed by the Amherst College Big Band, a small jazz rhythm and horn section and the a cappella groups Route 9 and the Bluestockings.
