AMHERST, Mass. –Music faculty of the Five Colleges will gather at Amherst College to perform new works by Amherst College music professors Lew Spratlan (emeritus) and Eric Sawyer, and classics by Igor Stravinsky and Robert Schumann on Friday, June 11, at 8 p.m. in Buckley Recital Hall in the Arms Music Center.

The concert is free and open to the public.

The performance, which Amherst music professor and clarinetist David Schneider describes as “two premieres and a date with the devil,” includes Spratlan’s new trio for violin, clarinet and piano; Sawyer’s In Kilter for piano four hands; Stravinsky’s devilish The Soldier’s Tale in an arrangement for four instruments and narrator; and Schumann’s Bilder aus Osten. Performers include Schneider on clarinet, University of Massachusetts music professor Elizabeth Chang on violin, Smith College Professor Judith Gordon on piano, Amherst instructor Alissa Leiser on piano and Joshua Perry on percussion. Peter Lobdell of Amherst’s Theater and Dance Department will narrate.
