AMHERST, Mass. – The line-up for the fall semester’s Jazz@Schwemm’s performance series has been posted. Performances given by students and local professionals will fall on four consecutive Thursday evenings beginning on Oct. 7 at 9 p.m. at the Schwemm’s Backroom Coffeehouse, which is located in the Keefe Campus Center on the Amherst College campus. Each performance is free and open to the public.

The series itself was a collaborative initiative of Alex Rodriguez ’07 and biology professor Dominic Poccia along with Bruce Diehl, director of jazz performance at Amherst. The goals were to increase the jazz presence on campus and give students the chance to interact with performance as a backdrop to their other normal daily activities. Former featured performers include, Poccia’s Ecclectic Jazz Quartet (EJQ),  political science professor Ron Tiersky, music professor Jason Robinson, Diehl, vocal jazz instructor Ann Maggs, UMass economics professor Rob Faulkner, musicians Gary Smulyan and Eugene Uman, plus numerous student jazz combos.

The performers slated for each week in October include:

Oct. 7-Dana Gooley Inventions Quartet

Oct. 14- EJQ

Oct. 21- Paul Arslanian Trio

Oct. 28- Carl Clements Group

Support for the Schwemm’s performance series has been generously provided by the Office of Student Activities and Jazz@Amherst.

All performances are free of charge.  For more information, contact Bruce Diehl, (413) 542-8308. More information is also available at www.amherst.edu/~Jazz .
