AMHERST, Mass. – The 2010-2011 Music at Amherst Chamber Series continues with a concert by the Parker Quartet and Kim Kashkashian, viola, on Friday, Dec. 3, at 8 p.m. in Buckley Recital Hall in the Arms Music Center at Amherst College. The performance requires tickets; seats may be reserved by calling 413/542-2195 or emailing concerts@amherst.edu.

Hailed by the New York Times as “something extraordinary” and by the Boston Globe for their “fiercely committed performances,” the Parker Quartet will perform Haydn’s Quartet in G minor, Op. 74, No. 3 (“The Rider”), Hindemith’s Quartet No. 3, Op. 22, and the Brahms Viola Quintet in G Major, Op. 111 with guest violist Kashkashian.

Kashkashian is hailed as “an artist who combines a probing, restless musical intellect with enormous beauty of tone” by the San Francisco Chronicle. She served as mentor to the young quartet during their time at New England Conservatory, and will perform with them for a short tour in December.

The box office for the Dec. 3 concert opens Nov. 22. Ticket prices for this event are $28 for the general public, $22 for senior citizens, $12 for students, and $7 for Amherst College students. Amherst College students can also request free student rush tickets at the door beginning at 7 p.m. on the evening of the performance.
