AMHERST, Mass. — The Amherst College Department of Music and the Association of Amherst Students will present Stephen Sondheim’s Company (1970) as its eighth annual musical on Jan. 27 and 29 at 8 p.m. in Buckley Recital Hall in the Arms Music Center. In addition, a special half-price preview performance will take place on Jan. 26 at 8 p.m. The musical is directed by New York City Opera veteran A. Scott Parry, with musical direction by Mark Lane Swanson. The Amherst Symphony Orchestra will be in the pit. Tickets are required and may be reserved in advance by contacting the Amherst College Concert Office.
Company concerns the quest for love and lasting relationships in the modern world and won multiple Tony Awards in both its original production and subsequent Broadway revivals. In its non-linear depiction of real everyday people with real problems – not idealized storybook characters – Company revolutionized the American musical theater.

Tickets are required and cost $10 for the general public; $5 for seniors, children 12 and under, and students with ID; and free to Amherst College students. All tickets for the Wednesday preview will be half-price. Early reservations are strongly recommended and can be made by calling 413/542-2195 or emailing concerts@amherst.edu. Seating is assigned on a best available basis.
