AMHERST, Mass. – The 2010-2011 Music at Amherst Parallels Series continues with a concert by Estonian-born bassoonist Martin Kuuskmann on Friday, Feb. 11, at 8 p.m. in Buckley Recital Hall in the Arms Music Center at Amherst College. Tickets are required and may be purchased by calling 413/542-2195 or emailing concerts@amherst.edu.

Kuuskmann has performed around the world as a solo, chamber and orchestral musician garnering relentless praise for his technical ability, remarkably nuanced sound and deep and mature musical expression. The New York Times describes Kuuskmann’s playing as “…dynamic…gripping…stunning.” At Amherst, he will perform “No Limits,” a highly virtuosic, amplified, solo performance that will include music from Bach and Berio to Pärt to Randall Woolf. In it, he will ultimately delve into the wilds of electronically enhanced solo bassoon. Of the concert, Kuuskmann wrote, “In the end, it is all going to be wild, gentle, loud and soft and crazy and exciting. Guaranteed.”

The box office for this performance opens on Jan. 31. Ticket prices are $18 for the general public, $12 for senior citizens, $10 for students and $7 for Amherst College students. Amherst College students can also request free student rush tickets at the door beginning at 7 p.m. on the evening of the performance.
