Folger Shakespeare Library Names New Director

Washington, D.C.—Michael Witmore, a scholar of Shakespeare and early modern literature as well as a pioneer in the digital analysis of Shakespeare’s texts, has been named director of the Folger Shakespeare Library, the sixth in the library’s 79-year history.

Amherst College Wins Paul E. Tsongas Award for Campus Preservation and Stewardship

For demonstrating good stewardship in the recent renovations of many of its residential buildings, Amherst College is one of 19 educational institutions in the state soon to be honored with a 2011 Paul E. Tsongas Award from Preservation Massachusetts (PM), a nonprofit organization “dedicated to preserving the Commonwealth’s historic and cultural heritage.”

AMHERST, Mass.—On Wednesday, April 6, at 4:30 p.m. in Amherst College’s Stirn Auditorium, ESPN baseball analyst Bobby Valentine, former manager of the New York Mets and Chiba Lotte Marines; William Kelly ’68, professor of anthropology and Sumitomo Professor of Japanese Studies at Yale University; and Frank Ramppen, former bench coach of the Chiba Lotte Marines, will discuss baseball in Japan.

Amherst College to Host Screening, Director’s Discussion of Mexican Film Revolución on April 28

AMHERST, Mass.—On Thursday, April 28, at 4 p.m. in Stirn Auditorium, Amherst College will host a screening of the new Mexican film Revolución and panel discussion about it with two of the film’s directors, Mariana Chenillo and Amat Escalante, and Amherst faculty members Rick Lopez, associate professor of history, and Javier Corrales, professor of political science.

University of Pittsburgh Professor John McDowell to Discuss “Intention in Action” at Amherst College April 28
