Amherst College Alumna Sebabatso Manoeli Awarded Rhodes Scholarship

Sebabatso C. Manoeli, a member of Amherst College’s Class of 2011, has been named a South African Rhodes Scholar. The Welkom, South Africa, resident joins just 82 other students globally who were selected for the honor, which provides recipients with full financial support to pursue a degree or degrees at the University of Oxford in the United Kingdom.

Campus Challenged to Step Up Community Service, Interfaith Engagement

Two years ago, Paul Sorrentino, director of religious life, was invited to the White House to take part in a conversation among college and nonprofit leaders from across the country about how to increase participation in community service and encourage interfaith engagement in the U.S. The discussion was a fruitful one, said Sorrentino, and it resulted in President Obama’s Interfaith and Community Service Campus Challenge (ICSCC) for the 2011–12 academic year.
