This past weekend, hundreds of alumni returned to Amherst to catch up with friends, attend talks and events, cheer on sports teams, and celebrate Homecoming 2016.
The annual weekend’s schedule was filled with tours, talks, events and festivities. Highlights included a panel on forty years of women’s athletics at Amherst, student a cappella performances, several alumni and student networking receptions and panels, and a conversation with President Martin. The weekend also marked the dedication of the Loeb Center for Career Exploration and Planning. The Friday celebration started with a student, faculty and staff panel on the role of a successful career center at Liberal Arts College and was followed by a reception at the recently named Loeb Center in Converse Hall.
“We had a full schedule of events over Homecoming weekend,” said Amanda Rivera Lopez '93, Director of Alumni and Parent Programs. “It’s wonderful to see alumni and families return and take part in campus activities.”
On Saturday, supporters filled Lehrman Stadium and ringed Pratt Field as Amherst faced Williams in the “biggest little game in America.” The Amherst football team concluded their season on a high note and secured a 28-3 victory. This year marks the 131st meeting of the two teams and although Williams holds the lead in all-time wins at 71-55-5, Amherst has won the last six straight meetings between the two rivals.
The weekend’s festivities didn’t end with the game. An all-campus Homecoming Fest was held in the Alumni Gym and everyone was invited to celebrate the events of the day with food, drinks and jazz. Saturday afternoon and evening were filled with museum tours, campus events, and student group concerts and performances.
