Cap and Gown Distribution and Announcements
Caps and gowns will be distributed to graduating seniors at the Graduation Fair in April in the Friedmann Room of Keefe Campus Center. Seniors should bring their ID's to pick up their regalia. Students unable to pick up their regalia during those times should call Austin Huot in the Conferences and Special Events Office at 413/542-7666 or e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org.
There is no charge for regalia and students are asked to wear it at both Senior Assembly on May 2 and Commencement on May 20.
Students may also pick up free graduation announcements that can be mailed to family and friends during the cap and gown pick up.
Commencement will be held outdoors, on the Main Quadrangle, in all but the most severe weather. If the event is outdoors, seating is unlimited and no tickets are required. If severe weather forces us indoors to LeFrak Gymnasium, seating will be limited and tickets will be required. Each graduating senior will receive three tickets for family and friends (this is the maximum legal occupancy without exceeding occupancy laws). Other guests without tickets will be able to watch a video simulcast of the ceremony in Coolidge Cage, next to LeFrak. The simulcast viewing screen is 10 feet by 14 feet and provides a clear image; the audience can actually see each graduate receive his or her diploma. Tickets will be distributed to students at Commencement Headquarters starting on Friday of Commencement Weekend, at 1 p.m. We also expect to have a limited number of extra tickets that will be distributed, one per student, on a first-come, first-served basis beginning at 1 p.m. on Friday, in Commencement Headquarters at the Alumni House. Please note that lost tickets cannot be replaced.
Reservations for dormitory rooms for families of graduates can be made with the Conferences and Special Events Office for Friday and Saturday night of Commencement Weekend. Information is sent to graduating seniors and their parents in late fall and electronic reservations and credit card payments can be made here. (This link will activate on Dec. 1). Reservations are acknowledged electronically at time of registration and specific room assignments will be provided when guests arrive on campus. If you or your family have any questions concerning reservations, please call Paula Mieczkowski at 413/542-8269 or e-mail email@example.com.
Early graduates, who have not processed in the prior year, should reserve rooms at no charge for the Commencement Weekend with the Conferences and Special Events Office.
All guests and graduating seniors must vacate their dormitory rooms by 5 p.m. on Sunday, May 21.
Mandatory Commencement rehearsal will be on Friday, May 18, at 5 p.m. on the Main Quadrangle. It is important that all Seniors attend this rehearsal so that proper seating can be arranged for Sunday's Commencement ceremony. Seniors are not run through the motions of Commencement, but important instructions are given and a select number of seniors will demonstrate the walking routes and stage procedures. Caps and gowns are not necessary. If you're going away before Commencement Weekend, please do plan to be back on campus by 5 p.m. Friday. We anticipate that rehearsal will be over well before 6:30 p.m.
