Convocation

Convocation 2019 will be held on Monday, September 2, at 7:30 p.m. in Johnson Chapel.

Opening Convocation is the first formal gathering of the first-year students, at which the president and the faculty, all in full regalia, welcome the students to the college. It is also a time for some of the recently promoted professors to be awarded honorary Amherst College degrees. The traditional ceremony involves a formal procession, musicians and the college Choral Society and is held on the first evening of the fall semester, usually Labor Day.

Convocation is intended for faculty and first-year students. Upperclassmen, alumni and community members are invited to watch via live stream . A video recording and a transcript of Opening Convocation will be available after the event.
