Join us for a panel discussion of the sometimes painful, sometimes satisfying, but potentially highly rewarding challenge of self-presentation in your application essays (Personal Statements, Statements of Purpose, short-form essays, cover letters and more). Whether you are applying for a fellowship or funding; for graduate, medical or law school; for a summer internship or program; or for a job, an understanding of the principles and perspective of writing for applications will help you to craft the essay most likely to gain the result you seek. The discussion will offer insight into what admissions committees, foundations and employers are looking for in your personal essays; advice and suggestions to help you get started or develop your essay-writing process; and guidance on essay style and form. The panel will include Debra Krumholz (pre-law advisor and assistant dean), Denise Gagnon (director of fellowships advising), Richard Aronson (health professions advisor and assistant dean), Magdalena Zapedowska (Writing Center associate) and Michael Keezing (Writing Center senior associate).
