Optional, independent tuition insurance covering medical withdrawals is offered by A.W.G. Dewar, Inc. This insurance is billed each semester. If you do not wish to participate in the program you must complete the online waiver by August 4, 2023 for the fall semester and by January 16, 2024 for the spring semester. The waiver will be available starting July 14, 2023 for the fall semester and December 15, 2023 for the spring semester. Subscribers are assured a refund of tuition within the terms of the plan for medical withdrawals. All medical withdrawals under the program are insured at 80% of the applicable tuition portion of the comprehensive fee previously paid to Amherst. This is a private program that is not provided, or administered, by the College.

How to File a Claim
Students that did not waive the A.W.G. Dewar tuition insurance coverage and then withdrew during the term of paid coverage for medical reasons, may be entitled to receive funds from the insurance company by submitting a claim form. To submit a claim, please complete and return the Dewar Tuition Insurance Claim Form as noted in these instructions:
- Page 1: Student must complete Step I and email the form to studentaccounts@amherst.edu.
- IMPORTANT: DO NOT include your social security number on this form for security reasons as the form must be emailed to us.
- Page 2: Student must complete Step I and give this page to the student's attending physician to complete Step II. Once completed the attending physician will need to submit the form to A.W.G. Dewar through A.W.G. Dewar's online portal (password: Dewar) or by mail to the following address:

If the claim is approved, up to 80% of the cost of tuition, less any financial aid, grants, tuition adjustments and/or balance owing will be refunded to the student upon request. Requests for refund should be sent to studentaccounts@amherst.edu.
