Long Term Care Insurance

The open enrollment period for the Amherst College Voluntary Long-term Care Insurance benefit (LTC) will run from March 10, 2014 through April 15, 2014.  Regular faculty, administrative and staff employees working 30 or more hours per week have the opportunity to purchase long-term care coverage for themselves, their spouse/partner, children, and/or parents at discounts of 5% - 35%, depending on the coverage selected.

To be approved for coverage, you and eligible family members need to have a measure of good health that is acceptable to the insurance carrier.  Although the guidelines require good health, they may not be as rigorous as you would encounter if you were to make application to another insurance company not affiliated with the Amherst program.  Although you are not guaranteed coverage, it is easier than if you applied for this coverage on your own.

Long-term care planning is part of the life-cycle planning process, yet it’s missing from the retirement planning of most individuals.  A primary goal of this communication is to provide education on a topic that could threaten your financial security and quality of life.  To learn more about this benefit please view the information at these links:

Tucker & Shepley Benefits and Insurance helps to administer our program with MedAmerica, the current insurance carrier.  Amherst College will sponsor several long-term care workshops conducted by Tucker & Shepley.  You are encouraged to attend one of these workshops even if you do not think you need long term care insurance, as the information presented is very helpful.  At the workshops, you can receive cost information and request to meet with a representative to discuss your situation privately.  You may also contact Joe Imparato at (617) 342-7223.

The workshops will be offered in the Campus Center Theater in the basement of the Keefe Campus Center at the following times:
