Employees who are unable to report for work or who will be delayed are responsible for personally notifying their immediate supervisor well in advance of the regularly scheduled starting time or, in an emergency situation, as soon as is practical. Each department head has the discretion of setting minimum notice requirements based on operational needs or requirements. Supervisors should notify the Office of Human Resources if an employee is absent for three or more days. Employees who are absent due to illness for five or more consecutive workdays may be required to submit a physician's certification to the Office of Human Resources.

In cases of continued, undocumented employee absence or tardiness, the immediate supervisor will issue a written warning to the employee with a copy to the Office of Human Resources. Further incidents of lateness or absence will be grounds for further disciplinary action, up to and including termination.
