We all have goals at work and in our lives. These "targets" can sometimes feel easy, and sometimes feel very difficult to achieve. Archery at Work combines a physical skill, learning how to shoot a bow and arrow with proper form, and a mental exercise, challenging your mind and body to coordinate movements into a new pattern of executing a task to achieve your goal - hitting the center of your target. Archery at Work is a rich metaphorical learning environment where each person can discover skills and learnings that can impact their daily life and their work.

Introduction to Archery

Intended for anyone, this session focuses on the skills of an archer. You will do so through an intentional training and practice routine that nurtures your Self-Image, helps you find and tap into your Inner Strength, and allows you to Choose Mindful Habits aimed at creating the future you want (arrows in the center). You will leave the session with new skills as an archer as well as helpful skills that can transfer to the workplace.

Archery with Professional Coaches from Sattva Center for Archery Training is a guided adventure focused on the mental and physical skills required to perform in archery and in life. In every Sattva session, we adapt the physical challenge to meet the needs of your body so anyone can participate.  Come and explore what many past participants have described as the best course they have ever experienced at Amherst.

This three-hour program includes:

  • an opportunity to envision what would allow you to feel successful and satisfied
  • detailed instruction from a USA Level IV Archery Coach
  • practice time shooting at a target and receiving feedback on your form
  • discussion of what we can learn from attempting to master a new skill, focusing our attention on a goal/target, and exploring how we respond when we experience both success and failure

For archers with prior experience and basic knowledge who want to continue to expand their archery skills, we are excited to offer a more advanced archery program. RIPPLE Archery starts with a learning and review cycle in a compressed timeframe. Then participants engage in a series of challenging activities that involve problem solving, experiencing change, and working collaboratively as part of a team. You will leave the session with new insights and awareness about yourself and your work.

Using new archery activities created just for this program, participants learn:

  • how to develop resilience when learning new skills and if making progress is more difficult than expected,
  • how "deep practice" can strengthen skills and build new habits, and
  • how to improve performance by paying close attention to the learning process - both on the range and at work.

And it will be fun!

We are very excited that we can offer this program on campus! We will be setting up the archery range on the athletic fields thanks to the cooperation of the Athletics Department. Upon receipt of your registration, you will be sent a confirmation with information about where to meet and other logistics.

These sessions have a limited enrollment and have always filled. Please register early to ensure you have a spot. You will be placed on a wait list if the session you register for has filled.
