Navigating difficult conversations is difficult. Emotions are often activated, leaving an opening for defensiveness, escalation and even a toxic work environment. Avoiding difficult conversations can lead to even bigger issues. Yet, these are the conversations that we often avoid. One of the reasons is that we just aren’t sure what to say or how to say it. This session will include tools and practice aimed at building the skills and confidence necessary to effectively engage in difficult conversations.
After this session you will be able to:
- use a simple framework that can minimize the defensiveness that often accompanies a difficult conversation.
- ask questions to seek deeper understanding of differences.
- listen and paraphrase to avoid assumptions and cross-communication.
- use resonance to make deeper connections.
This session is relevant to anyone who is interested in developing the skills to effectively engage in difficult conversations.
