September 29, 2021

Dear Colleagues,

As part of our continued review of the College’s compensation program and in light of the COVID-19 related wage increases in the labor market, we announced a retention bonus this summer for staff members working in Dining Services and Facility Auxiliary Services who make less than $70,000 per year. These staff members are scheduled to receive a two-part bonus, one payable at the end of September and the second payable at the end of December. The total two-part bonus ranged from $750 for part-time casuals to $1,500 for full-time benefited staff.

Based on our continuing assessment of the labor market and staff shortages in the service sector, we have determined that this retention bonus should be doubled. This means that part-time casuals will now receive $1,500 and full-time benefited staff will receive $3,000. In addition, and due to increasing market pressures with certain positions in other divisions, we will expand this program to include trades, rental housing, campus print and mail and some positions in Student Affairs

We believe this retention bonus--coupled with this summer's 7.0% wage increase for staff in the AO-1, 2, 3 and RI-1 ranges--responds to the current market conditions, translates to short-term income enhancement and conveys the College's support and commitment to its staff.

Please note, the bonus will be distributed as part of the October 8, 2021, payroll for weekly non-exempt employees and October monthly payroll for exempt employees.
