Educational Assistance Plans

As an institution of learning committed to academic achievement and lifelong learning, Amherst College supports the educational pursuits of its staff. The Educational Assistance Plan benefits are available to regular full-time and part-time employees.

Educational Assistance Application

There are three types of educational assistance plans offered:

I. Job-Related Educational Assistance

Defined: An educational program that specifically enhances skills used in current position.

Eligibility: Regular full-time and part-time employees on a pro-rated basis, after one year of continuous employment.

*Reimbursement: 100% of tuition and fees up to a reimbursable amount of $3,000 per fiscal year upon satisfactory completion of course.

Time: Courses are normally taken during non-working hours.

II. Non Job-Related Educational Assistance

Defined: A personal educational program not directly related to current position, related to potential future career opportunities at the College.

Eligibility: Regular full-time and part-time employees on a pro-rated basis, after three years of continuous employment. Applicants must consult with the Office of Human Resources on an annual basis.

*Reimbursement: 50% of tuition and fees up to a reimbursable amount of $1,500 per fiscal year upon satisfactory completion of course.

Time: Courses are normally taken during non-working hours.

III. Training and Development Educational Assistance

Defined: A professional development workshop/seminar/conference that is relevant to current position.

Eligibility: There is no length of service requirement.

Reimbursement: $150 per fiscal year for registration and/or tuition only.

Time: Workshops/seminars/conferences are normally held during working hours.
