For those with iOS devices - iPhones, iPads and iPod Touch, there is now an upgrade to iOS 8 available. iOS 8 is the latest instance of the iOS operating system.

It is fine to go ahead and upgrade your iOS devices to iOS 8 if you wish. As always, you should make sure to back up your device by plugging it into a Mac computer first then do the upgrade.

One feature of iOS 8 we recommend you avoid using for now is "upgrade to iCloud drive". This feature allows file sharing among devices and computers, but it will only be available with computers running the OS X 10 Yosemite operating system which is not widely available yet. Also any Amherst College data should not be stored on the Apple iCloud as it outside our College restore and data protection systems.

The screenshot below is from the setup of an upgrade to iOS 8. Until Yosemite is available, clients should choose "Not Now."
