If you typically receive a large volume of email from Moodle courses or forums (a common issue for ADC's and Librarians who are enrolled in many Moodle sites each semester), here are some tips on decreasing in-box clutter.

Also please see our guide on Forum Subscription options.

Option 1: Set a Filter in Gmail

You can set up a filter in Gmail so Moodle-generated messages bypass your Inbox and can be moved to a "label" (or deleted!).

  • Instructions on creating a filter are here.
  • To catch email coming from Moodle Announcements forum posts and Quickmail messages, search for messages for which "From" includes "(via AC Moodle) <noreply@amherst.edu>" .
  • Then, click Create Filter.

  • On the next screen you'll be able to choose what to do with the messages (e.g. bypass inbox, apply label, delete, etc).

Option 2: Change Your Moodle Notification Preferences

You can change your Moodle preferences to not receive email notifications from Forum posts. This will not affect emails sent via Quickmail.

  1. Click your picture at top right to open the user menu.
  2. Select Preferences, and on the next screen, Notification preferences.
  3. Look for the "Subscribed Forum Posts" row, and in the email column click both offline and online to off.

Option 3: Receieve a Daily Digest Email for Forum Notifications

You can opt to receive a single daily digest email from Moodle with all forum notifications, instead of individual emails. This will not affect emails sent via Quickmail.

  1. Click your picture at top right to open the user menu.
  2. Select Preferences, and on the next screen, Forum Preferences.
  3. Change the Digest menu to "Complete" or "Subjects".
  4. Save at the bottom of the screen.
