Access the VCL

Introduction

How to access the Amherst College Virtual Computing Lab.

Instructions

Instructions: 
  1. On-campus:
    Go to https://vcl.fivecolleges.edu/ and click on the Amherst College seal, or choose Amherst College from the drop-down list or find the Virtual Computing block on the lower-right side of your Moodle course site.
    Off-campus:
    Make an Amherst VPN connection.
    Go to https://vcl.fivecolleges.edu/ and click on the Amherst College seal, or choose Amherst College from the drop-down list or find the Virtual Computing block on the lower-right side of your Moodle course site.
  2. Under New Reservations select from the drop-down list the software application you want to use. Click Create reservation (faculty can make block reservations for classes).
    Note: You can make a reservation for some time in the future to guarantee the application is available.
  3. Click the Connect button to launch a window containing the computing environment and the application you want to use.

Mac computer users:

Download and install Microsoft Remote Access v8 (not v10) from the Mac App Store. When you reach the Connect! dialog, click on the link Alternate connection methods and using the information provided there, return to MSRemote Access and manually create a + New Remote Desktop Connection . Type command-S to save this, then double-click on it to open it. This information will change for subsequent uses, so edit as needed.

Windows computer users:

Download and install the Windows RDP client for the VCL.
