For self-service password changes, faculty, staff (including FCI, EDM, and Folger staff), and students use the standard password reset, which requires that you know your current Amherst password.
If you don't know your current password, or if your current password stops working because it has expired, you need to contact AskIT to get help changing your password. In most cases this means bringing a picture ID to the Help Desk in Seeley Mudd during standard business hours. though other arrangements are possible for users not currently on campus.
If you have the option, always change your password while on-campus.
To set a new password where you know your current one:
- Click on the Tools & Resources menu (the wrench icon) located on the top right corner of every page of the Amherst website. (Direct link to password change page.)
- Click Change/Manage Password.
- Follow the directions on the page. Faculty, staff, and students use the standard password reset.
To set a new password where you don't know your current password, or where your password has expired or is otherwise not working.
- Contact AskIT. If you are on campus you will be required to bring a picture ID to the Help Desk in Seeley Mudd.
Other types of users (alumni, applicants, Five College students, friends and family) can use the standard password reset it they know their username and password. However, such users can also take advantage of email password reset, which will tell them their Amherst username and let them set an Amherst password.
