Introduction

All networking devices have a MAC (media-access control) address that uniquely identifies the device on a network. Also know as the physical or hardware address, it takes the form of six pairs of hexadecimal numerals (A-F, 0-9) separated usually by a dash or a colon. For example, 40-3F-0C-EA-96-B2 and 40:3F:0C:EA:96:B2.
