Wireless Network Available in McGuire Life Science Building

The wireless network is available in McGuire Life Sciences Building.

Update: August 22 at 10:29 AM

Flooding in McGuire Life Sciences has knocked out all networking equipment. Replacing the equipment is expected to take a few days. 

The Communications Infrastructure department is working to implement emergency wireless access today (Monday, August 22nd). They hope to have the building "lit" for wireless sometime this afternoon.

Ethernet (wired) access will not be available until the damaged equipment is replaced.

Scheduled Maintenance will Affect Access to ACDATA, Colleague, and Other Select Services on Wednesday, August 17 at 4pm

On Wednesday, August 17 at 4pm, we will perform a hardware upgrade that will affect access to select services. The upgrade window is expected to last an hour and will affect access to AC Data, Colleague, Colleague ODBC Connections, and WebUI. During the upgrade, we will increase the memory available on the system that provides the services listed with the goal of enhancing the performance of services hosted in the system.

Critical Software Maintenance will Affect Access to ACDATA, Colleague, and Other Select Services

On Friday, June 24 at 2pm, we will perform a critical software upgrade that will affect access to select services until late Friday evening. The following resources will be unavailable:

  • WebUI.amherst.edu/production (“Collive”)
  • Acdata.amherst.edu (“ACData”)
  • Collive ODBC connections (“Safari”)

All Colleague users will be notified, when the system is back online late Friday night.  

Why is the upgrade is required now?
Our software provider for these systems notified us that this upgrade is required to protect against the  “DROWN” (Decrypting RSA with Obsolete and Weakened Encryption CVE-2016-0800) vulnerability.  The production upgrade has already been delayed for about a month due to end of semester demands for Colleague. Although this is not the most oconvenient time for the critical upgrade either, we appreciate departments’ flexibility in identifying a date for this important work.

Streaming Services (some website videos, webcams) Down

Streaming webcams and some videos on the Amherst website are currently down. There is a problem with the license file for our  streaming server instance. We are working the problem.

Interruption of Wireless Network on Campus Due to Scheduled Upgrades on Tuesday, May 31

On Tuesday, May 31, beginning at 9:30am, we plan to upgrade the wireless network controllers across campus. This will result in a rolling interruption of wireless service in different parts of the campus as the various components restart.  If you are using the wireless network on Tuesday, May 31, you will likely experience interruptions of wireless services of 15-30 minutes at some point during the day. We expect all wireless services will be back up and running normally by 3:00pm. The wired network service will be unaffected.

Wireless Upgrade on Tuesday, May 31

This coming Tuesday (May 31) beginning at approximately 9:30 AM, the IT Department will be upgrading our wireless network controllers.  This will result in a rolling interruption of wireless service in different parts of the campus as the various components restart.  Any individual user will likely see one or two outages of 15-30 minutes at some point during the day, and we expect all wireless service will be back up and running normally by 3:00 PM.   The wired network service will be unaffected.

FIXED: Email Out for a subset of users

A significant number of users can't access their email this morning, instead receiving a "secure connection refused" or similar message. We are working the problem.

About 9:40 AM the systems group discovered the problem and applied a fix.

Login to Select Services Unavailable
