Resolved: August 26 Sporadic Phone Outages

UPDATE:  We believe all phone service has been restored as of about 8:30AM.  Some central electronics equipment was scrambled, perhaps from the storms that passed through the area last night.

We have received a few reports of dead phones on campus this morning.  We know that some phones are working while others are not. We are working to determine the cause and apologize for the inconvenience.

August 20 Scheduled Phone System Outage

There will be a scheduled phone system outage between 7:00PM and 8:00PM on Thursday, August 20.  The outage is necessary to replace a system processor and memory that are believed to be faulty, and responsible for the brief system instability we experienced last month.  

If you are a user of the call forwarding feature:  at the conclusion of the maintenance, or Friday morning, please check the call forwarding on your phone and confirm that it is set appropriately.

If you ever need to report an emergency and 2111 is unavailable, please hang up and dial 911.

Update: August 20 Scheduled Cable TV Outage

The College's cable TV system was upgraded on Thursday, August 20.  As of 3PM, the Guide channel and five local channels are not yet available, but they should become available during the day on Friday, August 21.  

All TVs will have to be reprogrammed after the upgrade in order to discover the revised channel lineup and new viewing locations  If you have any difficulties reprogramming your TV, please let us know at AskIT@amherst.edu.

Storage02 File Server Unavailable

An ongoing outage is affecting services offered by Amherst College Information Technology. We are working on the problem and appreciate your patience. The server \\storage02 is undergoing unscheduled maintenance and will be unavailable to users until further notice.  All other file servers are operating normally.

There will be a scheduled phone system outage between 6:00PM and 7:00PM on Tuesday, July 21.  The outage duration is expected to be less than 30 minutes.

If you ever need to report an emergency and 2111 is unavailable, please hang up and dial 911.

Phone System Quirkiness

Several reports of phone system quirkiness during the lunchtime hour today have been reported.  Reports ranged from brief loss of dial tone to difficulties with call forwarding.  These issues are most likely related to the need for a system reboot, which is scheduled for 6:00PM this evening.  We are hopeful that stability will be restored after the reboot.

July 15 Scheduled Phone System Outage

There will be a scheduled phone system outage between 6:00PM and 10:00PM on Wednesday, July 15.  Outage duration should be approximately 30-45 minutes.  Purpose is to install software patches and reboot PBX.

Moodle will be Unavailable Due to Planned Upgrade on Wednesday Morning

Moodle will be unavaialble this Wednesday, July 15 from 7:30am - 8:00am due to a planned upgrade. During that time, Moodle will be inaccessible and you will not be able to log in to the Moodle site. No Public Computers in Seeley Mudd Today
