Amherst students, faculty, and staff receive an Amherst Gmail account when they join the College. Departing staff lose access to their Amherst Gmail accounts on their termination date. Students generally lose access to their college Gmail accounts six months after their graduation date. Emeriti retain access to their Amherst mailboxes.

Amherst College Gmail is provided as part of the broader Amherst College Google Workspace. 

Gmail is accessible via any web browser (Chrome is preferred), as an iOS app, and as an Android app.

Your Amherst email is available from any place you have Internet access.


To access your email you need an Internet connection and a web browser such as Mozilla Firefox, Safari, or Chrome. Chrome is preferred. 

On a mobile device, to access your Amherst email, we recommend utilizing the official Gmail app. If not already available on your iOS or Android device, you can download and install the Gmail app from the Apple App Store or Google Play store. If you wish to use another email app, when adding an account, select Google or Gmail as the account type to add. 

Getting Started

Access Amherst Email Online

  1. Go to
  2. Click Sign in.
  3. Enter your Amherst email address.
  4. If asked if this is a business, enterprise, or institutional account, agree.
  5. Enter your Amherst username and password.
  6. Complete Duo authentication if prompted.
  7. If asked if you want to continue, agree and continue.
  8. If you are already logged in with a personal Gmail account, click your account icon in the upper right corner of the screen to switch to your Amherst Gmail account.
