Current Computer Specifications

IT Replacement Cycle
The computer replacement cycle for eligible positions is typically every four years. Monitor replacement cycles will differ depending on type of monitor.

These are the current configurations made available to faculty and staff for IT Replacement Cycle College-owned computers and accessories.

Specifications are subject to change without notice based on inventory.

  • Our current standard notebook models have solid state hard drives, as well as the iMac.
  • For any notebook , you may request a 22-inch monitor, keyboard and mouse. Larger displays will require contribution of startup or research and travel funds (Faculty) or department contribution (Facult or Staff), at the department's discretion.

College Computer Request forms

After you review the information about the various models, upgrades and accessories available, please submit the respective form for the computer you would like to request using the links below.

Faculty must use the request forms to indicate their choice of Replacement Cycle computer. Replacement Cycle computers for staff are determined by their department based on their position and work requirements. Desigated members of departments should submit the forms for their staff.

If you want upgrades or accessories beyond the standard offerings, you will be required to make up the cost differrence out of departmental or startup funds.

    additional matching size monitor $280-300
    dual monitors with a Windows laptop also will require a docking station, see prices below

  • for Mac notebooks only - Apple Thunderbolt 27-inch display - $1100.
    the Thunderbolt display is the equivalent of a docking station for Mac notebooks
  • for Windows laptops only - Curved 34-inch Ultrasharp Dell monitor - $805

    Latitude 7440 or 7450 docking station $165 charge
    XPS 13 USB 3 docking station $130 charge (note: does not power the computer)

  • for Mac notebooks only - number pad stickers, requires also Magic Trackpad see above $30
  • for any laptop or notebook - USB wired headset - $30 charge
  • for any laptop or notebook or the iMac desktop - USB DVD drive $30 charge
    The iMac desktop and both the Mac notebooks and Windows laptops do not come with a DVD drive.
    (External DVD drives are available for short-term loan from IT Multimedia Services,
    Room 110 first floor Seeley Mudd Building.)

 Optional Upgrades

We likely will need to procure a new computer from the manufacturer for the optional upgrades listed below, so delivery times will be affected.

  • hard disk upgrade $210-500, depending on specifications
  • memory upgrade $180-350, depending on specifications
  • processor upgrade $180-1500, depending on specifications
  • for Mac or Windows desktops - solid state hard drive upgrade
    (both laptop models and the iMac already include non-mechanical drives)
  • other computer models for specific academic, research or business needs - example humidity proof field work laptops, ruggedized laptops for emergency responders or police, specific hardware for research or science laboratory needs
