Temporary Network Storage

Use the Scratch temporary network storage share to move or share files and folders. Scratch is a large-capacity, public, network storage share that is erased overnight. Use Scratch if you need to move files and folders from one computer or device to another, share files or folders with someone else at Amherst or do a quick temporary back-up of some data.

WebDAV

WebDAV is a standard interface that lets you access Amherst storage shares from any web browser and many mobile apps.

Available on the Amherst Storage server and Userfiles (fs005) server. Not yet available on fs001.

Lets you view (read) files on a network share form anywhere using any web browser.

Lets you read and write files using software that supports WebDAV. Increasingly, mobile apps for iOS and Android are supporting WebDAV.

Getting Started: 

To access a network share using WebDAV, you need to use the proper address. For Amherst servers, the address takes the form:

https://webdav.amherst.edu/server_name/share_name

Thus, if you were Jeff Amherst (username jamherst) and your U: drive was on the Userfiles server, the WebDAV address would be:

https://webdav.amherst.edu/userfiles/jamherst

Department Network Storage

Most administrative departments have access to a department network share that is automatically accessible to all members of the department. In addtion, a pilot program is underway to create department network shares for academic departments.
