IMPORTANT: As of January 3, 2020 the Network Registration (Netreg) service has moved to a depricated state. Netreg is no longer required for wireless devices to connect to the Amherst network and will soon be unnecessary for wired ones.
Netreg has been replaced by Clearpass as the system that controls access to the Amherst network. See the following about connecting devices to the new Amherst network:
Connecting Wired Devices That Don't Have Web Browsers
How to network register wired devices such as game consoles that don't have web browsers.
This information applies to wired (Ethernet) devices connecting to the old Amherst network. If your building has already moved to the new network, follow the directions for connecting to the new Amherst network.
Register your computer, phone or mobile devices to use the Amherst wired or wireless network
After connecting to the network using either wired (Ethernet) or wireless (Wi-Fi), open a web browser such as Internet Explorer, Safari, Firefox or Chrome. Your browser should redirect automatically to the Network Registration page. If it does not, navigate directly to the web address netreg.amherst.edu.
Follow the directions on the Network Registration page.
Clear your browser cache and close the web browser. If you registered a wireless (Wi-Fi) connection, you do not need to restart, open a web browser and you should find you have Internet access. If you registered a wired Ethernet connection, you must restart your computer to complete the process.
Once you clear the cache or restart the computer you should find you have Internet access.
Note: The network registration process must be completed for each type of network connection for each device, so both wired and wirless if you wish to use both. Plug the device in with an Ethernet cable to register the wired connection then unplug the cable and using wireless or Wi-Fi register the wireless connection.
