Advisory Committee on Socially Responsible Investing (ACSRI)
Amherst College takes seriously issues of sustainability, the environment, transparency and human rights and encourages campus engagement with respect to these issues. Students recently formed the Amherst College Responsible Endowment Coalition (ACREC), which is comprised of members of a number of student organizations with a wide range of concerns, including climate change, gender discrimination and human rights abuses.
One way that the College can participate in conversations related to issues of sustainability, the environment and human rights is by voting the proxies for companies that are held directly in the name of the College. To this end, the Board of Trustees approved a proposal by the ACREC to form an Advisory Committee on Socially Responsible Investing (ACSRI), which will be a sub-committee of the Committee on Priorities and Resources (CPR) and consist of various representative members of the broad College community. The ACSRI will advise the College on issues related to social, environmental and ethical investment practices for stocks owned in the name of the Trustees of Amherst College (an up to date listing can be found on the Office of Investments main web page).
