The Writing Center
Professional writing instructors are available to help students with their writing in both one-on-one sessions and small-group workshops. Students may consult the Amherst College Writing Center staff about any aspect of the writing process. Students can make appointments via the Writing Center Online Scheduler.
The Moss Quantitative Center
The Moss Quantitative Center provides walk-in tutorial services. Faculty-approved tutors are available to work with students who want to improve their conceptual understanding in math, science and economics courses.
Reference Librarians
Expert librarians are available at the Reference Desk in the Frost Library, the Morgan Music Library, the Keefe Science Library, and in Archives & Special Collections. The reference staff offers students individual assistance with all Library resources. Students with brief reference questions may e-mail the library staff via the “Ask Us” website or call the appropriate library branch.
Office of Student Affairs
The Class Deans are available for short-term counseling sessions to help students address problems that impede academic progress including procrastination, time mismanagement, competing priorities, and other related issues. For an appointment call or stop by the Office of Student Affairs.
Peer Tutoring
Peer tutoring is available to Amherst College students who find themselves in need of tutorial assistance. Peer tutors are available for most disciplines. Students are advised to first discuss their concerns with the professor in the course. Dean Charri Boykin-East oversees the Peer Tutoring Program. Center for Counseling and Mental Health
The Amherst College Center for Counseling and Mental Health provides assessment, counseling, brief psychotherapy, and referral to Amherst College students on a voluntary and confidential basis.
