We are very excited about the upcoming arrival of our new students next week! On Tuesday, August 27th, we will be welcoming approximately 500 First-year and Transfer students to the Amherst College community.
We also want to share how Move-In Day on a weekday may impact you to alleviate any inconveniences that might arise on this day.
- Move-in for families and students begins at 8:00 a.m. and lasts until 12:00 p.m
- There will be no parking available on the First-Year Quad, and parking for faculty and staff is restricted to Converse and Alumni lots. Please note that the traffic pattern for the First Year Quad will be reversed. Access to the First Year Quad will be limited to incoming students and essential personnel. Parking spaces may be difficult to find so please plan accordingly.
- Valentine Dining Hall will be closed during lunch, but we are thrilled to invite you to join students and their families on the Valentine Quad from 11:00 a.m. – 12:45 p.m. for a Cook Out Lunch.
- Val will remain open for both breakfast and dinner on move-in day. Incoming students and their families may join both the breakfast and dinner meal times, which may result in longer than usual lines and waiting periods, similar to what you may have encountered at lunch when we host guests participating in summer programs on campus. You may encounter families and students as they explore and begin to learn the ins and outs of campus. As an Amherst employee and resource, students and families may stop to ask you questions or ask for directions.
Move-in day is very special, and we invite you to observe this unique tradition that will take place on the First-Year Quad. We thank you in advance for your flexibility during this transition and for supporting our students throughout this exciting time.
