Welcome to the Herd!

On August 27th, families are encouraged to stay on campus for the day after they move their student into the Residence Halls. This will give family members the opportunity to meet Amherst staff and faculty, and to learn more about the resources available to their student. The Office of New Student Programs has arranged the following schedule, which is currently subject to slight adjustments, for this purpose:

Tuesday, August 27th

AB group  MOVE-IN

8:00 am - 12:00 pm • South Parking Lot and Residence Halls

Welcome to Amherst! Enjoy iced coffee and treats while you pick up your keys and ID then proceed to move into your residence hall. Once you finish, you will be asked to move your car to one of our parking lots. Shuttles will be running on loop to take you back to main campus. 

AB group  BENESKI TOURS

9:00 - 12:30 pm • Beneski Museum

Beneski Science Museum will be open for tours. Come see some of Amherst’s hidden treasures. 

AB group  COOKOUT LUNCH

11:00 - 12:30 pm • Valentine Quad

Come join us on the quad in front of Valentine Dining Hall for a free cookout lunch open to all new students, their families, and guests! Stay and mingle or explore the campus. 

AB group  FIRST GENERATION FAMILIES WELCOME

11:30 - 12:30 pm • Lewis-Sebring Room, Valentine Dining Hall

Please bring your cookout lunch into the Lewis-Sebring room to meet with other first generation students and their families. In this context, first generation students refers to those who are the first in their family to attend college.

3:00 - 5:00 pm • First Year Quad

Incoming students and families will begin familiarizing themselves with the College’s departments and services. Meet with representatives, ask questions, and pick up some cool giveaways! 

AB group  MULTILINGUAL FAMILY RECEPTIONS

5:30 - 6:30 pm • Frost Library

Students and their families who speak Spanish, Korean, Mandarin, or Arabic primarily or at home are invited to Q & A with current students, faculty, and staff.
