In 2019 Amherst College created the new Summer Quantitative and Social Science track. It is an invitation-only program that introduces its participants to the kind of quantitative analysis, critical reading, and writing that will be expected of them in their classes at Amherst. During the program, participants take four courses, each taught by an Amherst College faculty member: statistics, taught by Prof. Wagaman; economics, taught by Prof. Honig; a literature-based writing course, taught by Prof. Cobham-Sander; and either calculus or political science. Students also take part in writing workshops and work closely with the staff of our Writing Center and the Moss Quantitative Center. Two former Summer Bridge students will support as tutors. Through this program, students will get to know faculty mentors and receive academic advising in quantitative fields and social sciences.

Program Details:

In 2020, in response to the Covid-19 situation, the program will operate remotely for six weeks from Monday, July 6 through Friday, August 14. Participants will receive a laptop to use for Summer Bridge and throughout their time at Amherst College. It will come loaded with programs needed for Summer Bridge, as well as for fall Amherst College courses. Those who need it will also receive an internet hotspot.
