Teaching Interests

My teaching interests include courses in behavioral neuroscience.  In addition to teaching introductory courses in both Psychology and Neuroscience, I teach upper level courses in Psychopharmacology and Hormones and Behavior.  My upper level courses emphasize reading primary literature and thinking/writing about experimental design and scientific rationale.  I regularly ask students to go to the literature themselves and share with the class a research article they have found, explaining what was done and how it relates to the research we have read in class.  I find this gives the students a sense of their own discovery as well as practice presenting research ideas to others.  This exercise keeps class engaging and exciting as students regularly bringing in new and fascinating studies that I haven't seen.  My goal is to have students experience the excitement of scientific discovery and to give them an appreciation of and understanding of the scientific process.
