West Point’s Bryn Geffert Named Amherst College’s New Librarian

AMHERST, Mass. – Bryn Geffert, library director and associate professor of history at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, has been named AmherstCollege’s new librarian of the college. He will start work at Amherst on Jan. 21, 2010.

In keeping with a global trend toward making information open to all, the faculty at Amherst College voted this month overwhelmingly in favor of a resolution that will effectively offer their forthcoming scholarly articles online for free.

The line snaked from the northwest corner of Frost Library’s first floor almost to the main entrance, the Amherst students, faculty and staff watching as those ahead of them reached the counter, collected what they’d come for and excitedly left the building for their 2 p.m. classes.
