Voices of the Gay Amherst Class

A series of vignettes based on the experiences of LGBTQIA students and recent alumni at Amherst. This is one of a series of events planned throughout the year in recognition of the founding, 25 years ago, of GALA, the Gay and Lesbian Alumni organization. Presented by the Pride Alliance and Alumni and Parent Programs at Homecoming 2010.

Pamela L. Stawasz, Area Coordinator of LGBTQIA Education and Assistant Director of Residential Life, introduces the event with a history of the Pride Alliance. The performances begin at 05:20.

Being Gay at Amherst: Voices Through Time

Louis Dolbeare ’40; Folger Cleaveland ’67; Steve Cadwell ’72; Larry Axelrod ’81; Jasmine Eucogco '06 and others reflect on what being a student who did not identify with the heterosexual norm was like when they were students at Amherst. 

This program is part of the 25th Anniversary of the Gay and Lesbian Alumni (GALA) Celebration.

A post-reunion dispatch

Every year I volunteer to staff a few events at Reunion. The work is not hard: it involves filling water glasses, making sure talks start and end on time and annoying those seated at the end of an aisle by asking them to  pretty please move in to the center.
