Amherst's class of 2018 includes an internationally ranked table tennis player, a Morse Code enthusiast, a U.S. military veteran, a blacksmith and someone who wears size 16 shoes.


The Class of 2015 and Commencement, by the Numbers

AMHERST, Mass. — Amherst will celebrate its 194th Commencement on Sunday, May 24, at 10 a.m. on the school’s Main Quadrangle. The day’s exercises will feature addresses from College President Biddy Martin and senior Katherine C. Ponds, as well as the awarding of bachelor of arts degrees to 470 graduates and honorary doctorates to six distinguished guests. (The event will also be webcast for friends and family members unable to make it to campus.)


Introducing... This Year’s New Students

They include two former presidents of their high schools’ Young Republicans clubs, two licensed pilots, a grand champion pig raiser, a Carnegie Hall performer, a national ballroom dancing champion and the manager of a rap artist.

They are adoptees, immigrants and orphans; Muslims, Quakers and atheists; vegans and vegetarians, among many, many other things.

Their names include Joy, Courage, Destiny and Liberty.

And they are all now, officially, Amherst College undergraduates.
