Two Amherst juniors intent on conducting biomedical research to fight fatal diseases are among the outstanding science students being honored this year by the Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship and Excellence in Education Program. A third junior, fired with a passion to battle economic inequality and the political ambition to carry this out, is being honored by the Harry S. Truman Scholarship Foundation.

Amherst Students Named Truman, Beineke Scholars

Two Amherst students intent on spreading justice at home and abroad will soon be putting those plans into action, thanks to the Harry S. Truman Scholarship Foundation. A third student has been awarded a Beineke Scholarship to pursue graduate study in environmental history.

AMHERST, Mass.—Nathan H. Nash, a junior political science and biology major at Amherst College, is one of just 60 students from 54 U.S. colleges and universities selected to be Truman Scholars this year.
