Amherst College Names Peter Uvin to New Provost Post

AMHERST, Mass. – Peter Uvin, the academic dean and the Henry J. Leir Professor of International Humanitarian Studies at Tufts University’s Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, has been selected to be Amherst College’s provost, the first in the college's history, Amherst President Biddy Martin announced today.

Amherst Files Amicus Brief in Supreme Court Diversity Case

In a show of support for the importance of diversity in higher education, Amherst College organized and led a group of other “highly selective” liberal arts schools from across the country in filing an amicus brief with the U.S. Supreme Court in the Fisher v. University of Texas case last month.

AMHERST, Mass. — In her first graduation address as Amherst College’s new leader, President Biddy Martin this morning exhorted the members of the Class of 2012 to “embrace reality in all of its wonder and its horror, without giving in to cynicism or despair on the one hand or sheer fantasy on the other.”
