Boy Meets Girl, Russell Style

[Film] Filmmaker David O. Russell found the biggest acclaim and success of his career by working as a director for hire on 2010’s boxing drama The Fighter, but before that he’d spent his
time focusing on oddball stories about abrasive but endearing outcasts, in movies such as Flirting with Disaster and I ❤ Huck­abees.

Career Center Welcomes New Director Ursula Olender

This fall, Amherst welcomes Ursula Olender as the new director of the Career Center and associate dean of students. She comes to Amherst from Colgate University, where she became director of career services in 2007. She was previously associate director of career services and chief health professions adviser at Dartmouth College. She received a master’s degree in counseling from Springfield College and a bachelor’s in psychology from Greenville College. She recently spoke with Rebecca Ojserkis ’12 about her plans for Amherst. The edited and condensed interview is below.

The Folger Gets a New Director

The new director of the Folger Shakespeare Library is a pioneer in the digital analysis of Shakespeare’s texts.

Michael Witmore, 43, a scholar of Shakespeare and early modern literature, joined the Folger—which is administered under the auspices of Amherst College—in July. He succeeds Gail Kern Paster, who retired after nine years.

Amherst College Center for Community Engagement Names Molly Mead Director

Tisch College of Citizenship and Public Service at Tufts University, has been named the first director of the new Center for Community Engagement at Amherst College. Her appointment is effective July 1.
