What is Post-Completion OPT?

Post-Completion OPT is Optional Practical Training (OPT) that you use to work after graduating from Amherst College.

Remember, OPT is authorization for employment that is directly related to your major field of study and is only for students in F-1 status.

On-Campus Employment Letter Request

Please complete this form if you have been offered on-campus employment and will be applying for a Social Security Number (SSN).

It is very important that the information below be accurate in order to support your social security application and facilitate the issuance of a social security number. 

Once the webform information has been completed, please allow one week for processing. The Center for International Student Engagement (CISE) will contact your employer and, together, an On-Campus Employment Confirmation Letter will be issued for you. This letter is required in order to apply for an SSN. You will be notified when the documentation is available for pick up at the Center for International Student Engagement.

Step-by-Step Guide to On-Campus Employment

We know it can seem daunting, but landing your first on-campus job and taking all of the necessary steps is easier than you think.  Follow along below and, remember, you cannot receive a paycheck for on-campus work until you have completed all five steps!

F-1 Students

As an F-1 student, you may work on-campus at Amherst College during the academic year up to 20 hours per week (and full-time during vacation periods and summer/interterm while still a student).

Conferences and Special Events (CASE)- Usher Application

If you're interested in applying for a position as an usher at an upcoming CASE event, fill out the form below. 

 Please keep in mind the requirements of working as an usher. You will be the first point of contact guests will have with College staff at our events. As such, you should be "dressed to impress", friendly and knowledgable, and prepared to work on your feet for up to several hours. A member of our staff will contact you with more specific details regarding the upcoming event if you are selected as an usher.
