AMHERST, Mass.—Amherst College’s Department of Religion and Willis D. Wood Fund will host and sponsor a lecture series titled “Paul, Judaism, and the Roman Empire” at 8 p.m. in Fayerweather Hall’s Pruyne Lecture Hall on the Tuesday evenings of Feb. 10, Feb. 24, March 10 and March 24.

Amazing Whirling Dervishes to Perform at Amherst College Oct. 27

AMHERST, Mass.—The Amazing Whirling Dervishes, a troupe of 16 Mevlevi musicians and whirling dervishes from Turkey, will perform at Buckley Recital Hall in Amherst College’s Arms Music Center at 8 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 27. The group will perform the internationally recognized, centuries-old, sacred whirling ceremony (known as Sema) and a dramatic reading—with musical accompaniment—of the poetry of Jalaladdun Rumi,  Islam’s great 13th-century mystical poet. The free event is being sponsored by the Willis D. Wood Fund and Amherst’s Department of Religion.

Parables Conference to Be Held at Amherst College April 8 and 9

Wood Fund, will feature six well-known scholars of parables, who will do close readings of several parables and facilitate audience discussion.
