Last year Amherst College was one of over 300 colleges and universities to successfully participate in the President’s Community Service and Interfaith Campus Challenge. The overarching goals of the President’s Challenge continue for 2012-13:

Approximate Number of Hours: 10-20 hours/month

Job Description: Be our expert! Help manage the Web presence and online activities of Reader to Reader, a literacy non-profit with a long history of collaboration with Amherst College. We’re especially looking for someone with an outstanding ability to explain technical things slowly to an English major.

Donating School Supplies

School supplies donated at Campus Challenge drop-off sites are being distributed to Amherst A Better Chance House, Homework House Holyoke, and Reader to Reader, Inc. Of course, you may donate supplies directly to the educational institution or community organization of your choice. Here's a list of commonly-requested school supplies:

The Springfield-area ABC News affiliate featured Reader to Reader, a college-based nonprofit that distributes books to needy school districts across the US, and volunteer Kathryn Libby ’11 in a segment that ran during its morning broadcast.
