Change to Network Registration Process - One fewer step for wireless network access!

Wireless or Wi-Fi users no longer need to restart or turn off then on again their wireless adapters after Network Registration to use the Amherst network. You can start using the network immediately after registering. This applies to Amherst employees and students as well as guests. Visitors to our campus using the eduroam wireless access service do not have to Network Register at all.

Network Registration (NetReg)

Every year for the fall semester the IT department requires that all devices (computers, smartphones, game consoles, tablets, etc.) that connect to the Amherst network register on the network. Any device not registered will be unable to access the Amherst network or the Internet. The exception is computers that connect to Ethernet ports behind the Amherst Firewall; these do not have to be registered.

FAQ Network Registration for Guests/Visitors

Why do I have to register my computer or other devices?

All electronic devices connecting to the Amherst College Ethernet or wireless (Wi-Fi) networks must go through a network registration process. Network registration (NetReg) allows the IT department to associate contact information with your device(s). Should there be a problem, it will allow us to get in touch with you quickly.

NetReg FAQ for Amherst Community

Why do I have to register my device(s) such as computers, wireless devices, etc.?

Registering your device(s) allows the IT department to associate your Amherst username with your devices. That way, if IT suspects that your computer or other device(s) get infected with a virus or need to be isolated from the campus network, you can be contacted in a timely manner.
