The Honorary Marshal follows the Sheriff of Hampshire County and the Faculty Marshal in the academic procession and bears a ceremonial mace, a symbol of order and authority. Boyle is the father of Alexandra Boyle, who will graduate from Amherst that day.

A graduate of Martha’s Vineyard High School, Gorenberg is the daughter of David Gorenberg (Amherst ’65) and Leslie Baker of West Tisbury, Mass. Gorenberg shared the prize with Sarah Twombly of Mount Holyoke College.

The Vickery Professorship will honor a senior faculty member who is distinguished by and dedicated to the teaching and research of art history or musicology. The first Vickery Professor will be named after Vickery’s retirement.
