Final Presidential Debate 

The final debate between presidential candidates McCain and Obama will air live tonight, Wednesday October 15th at 9 pm.  Bob Schieffer of CBS will moderate.  The debate will take place at Hofstra University, Hempstead, NY and can be viewed in the New Book area of the Frost Library. (10/15/08)

It's a pleasure to be with you tonight. I want to say by way of introduction that I'm here because of Tony Marx. Not that he twisted my arm. I mean it in the broadest sense. I can testify that Tony didn’t start provoking 20-year-olds when he became president of Amherst; he provoked and and inspired 20-year-olds when HE was 20 years old. I've been grateful for that bond of friendship since we were roommates one summer in Cambridge nearly 30 years ago.

AMHERST, Mass.—“The story we have all been following … is one of competing narratives,” Philip Bennett, managing editor of The Washington Post, told an engaged audience in the Babbott Room of Amherst’s Octagon Wednesday, Oct.1, during a discussion of the presidential election. “We are witnessing a contest for control of the story between the traditional news media, new sources of news and information, the campaigns themselves, special interests and interested and often anonymous parties.”
