Amherst in Cartagena, 2019

In January 2019, I organized a one-week trip to Cartagena, Colombia for Amherst College students in collaboration with Visiting Assistant Professor Sebastián Bitar.

This was the final project for our fall 2018 classes “The Political Economy of Petro States” and “Foreign Policy Analysis,” respectively.

We spent a week in the port city Cartagena taking courses in the morning at the local campus of Uniandes and visiting sites in the afternoon. Their itinerary included a visit to one of the largest oil refineries in South America.

We also had meals with former government ministers, renowned economists, and a Venezuelan legislator from the opposition.

Students wrote research papers upon their return.
