For students or alumni who might find this information useful:

I graduated in 2005 with majors in Biology and History, and a thesis on the teaching of evolution and creationism in high schools in Arkansas.

For two years between college and grad school, I worked in a lab at NIMH in Bethesda, Maryland, mentored by Miles Herkenham '70. Here's our slightly out of date lab webpage. I used seizure models in mice to look at the role of NF-kB in neuroprotection, and presented my work at the Society for Neuroscience conference in November 2007. For current students interested in neurobiology or other fields of biomedical research, I highly recommend the NIH's Post-Bac IRTA fellowship. Feel free to contact me at respeer05@alumni.amherst.edu if you have any questions about it!

After NIH, I did graduate work in neuroscience at Weill Cornell, taught high school math and science, worked as a medical director for CME, and worked as a writer/marketing specialist for a life science CRO.

I've spent a lot of my free time on Sacred Harp Singing and long-distance running. As of 2015, I live with my husband and son in New Jersey. For personal updates, find me on planworld.
